If the reports are true, the Tennessee Titans have raised the excitement level amongst fans and ushered in a new era of hope for the team in one swift move.
There had been much debate about whether the talented but green-as-grass Locker would be handed the reins or whether the crafty veteran Matt Hasselbeck would steady the ship for another year.
But the faith shown in the former Washington standout shows the organization wants to move forward as quickly as possible.
Following Locker's poor performance in his last preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, you could be forgiven for thinking he ruined his shot at the starting job.
But the coaching staff obviously remembered the great potential he showed in his limited number of outings last year, passing for over 500 yards and four touchdowns coming off the bench.
Locker offers far more upside than Hasselbeck, and he will also help improve the running game for the supposedly rejuvenated Chris Johnson.
Locker is better throwing on the move, but he has shown he can stand tall in the pocket deliver throws with improved accuracy.
If you are behind a game, you would want Locker in the game over Hasselbeck.
Simply put, that is why Locker should be the starter.
He has the wheels to break long gains when put under pressure from oncoming pass rushers and he has the arm strength to make the deep pass even when he has been forced near the sidelines.
Johnson, Kenny Britt, Jared Cook and Kendall Wright are all very young offensive juggernauts, and it will b e very exciting to see just how well Locker can be the leader of that group.
