A Memphis Grizzlies Problem: Where’s Zach Randolph?
Zach Randolph's out on the court, but not quite himself as he works his way back from an MCL tear. And for all their "on paper" advantage over the Los Angeles Clippers, the Grizz only seem so imposing with a healthy Z-Bo. But Zach Randolph does not look healthy, and he's played awful in certain instances. Sunday night's collapse was a prime example (the lumbering power forward finished with only six points).
While the box score will not reflect all the flubs as turnovers (Randolph finished with three miscues), he could scarcely grip the ball on rebounds and entry passes. That lack of facility in simply securing the rock was jarring.
It was all the more shocking because this is an elite skill of Z-Bo's. On a normal night, his hands are stick 'em-coated catcher's mitts—soft enough to cradle a falling egg, large enough to host a birdbath. Now, they might as well belong to Joel Anthony.
This should eventually come to pass for Randolph, but time is of the essence. The Grizzlies have a lot of talent, but not enough to recover from a slow Z-Bo recovery.
